Loungewear VS. Sleepwear

Over the past few years, the comfy-yet-functional trend of athleisure brought with it a heather gray area in fashion. We struggled to define these socially-acceptable garments soft enough to nap in, and with that, the loungewear we know and love today was born. The pandemic fanned the flames of this form of dress into a full blown fashion fire, making this year the year to go full lounge with your look.

Today we’re tackling the question that plagues many of those who like to dress with a more relaxed approach – what is the difference between loungewear and sleepwear?

Sleepwear

Let’s start with what we know. Sleepwear is clothing designed to be worn to bed – think Onesies, PJ Sets and Undies. MeUndies has no shortage of styles to get sleepy in, most notably our PJ Sets for men and women that are perfect for couples who like to match on their way to dreamland. We also carry a variety of PJ Dress options that are undeniably made for bedtime.

Loungewear

So if sleepwear is made for sleep, what is loungewear? For the sake of this article, we’re going to define loungewear as clothing comfortable enough to be worn inside, but that can be worn outside without incident. These garments usually toe the line between full sleepwear and “real” clothes. Think elastic waistbands, but with pockets – pants soft enough to nap in, but thick enough to run and get the mail in without doing that silly walk-run because you didn't realize how cold it was.

Loungewear can make the transition to Sleepwear more easily than Sleepwear can be worn as Loungewear. From Cardigans to Cropped Hoodies, MeUndies has your loungewear looks on lock. Our Modal Jogger is available in sizes for men and women and is the perfect example of a loungewear crossover. You can dress them up or down without compromising comfort. Our aptly named Lounge Pants are similar in style to our Jogger, but with a more relaxed leg opening. Looking to lounge with a more elevated look? The MeUndies Modal Jumpsuit is another versatile loungewear option that looks as good as it feels, as is our brunch-appropriate Modal Wide Leg Pant. Our French Terry line is another safe bet for loungewear picks, with Hooded Dresses and Joggers that are beyond comfy and fully functional.

So is loungewear the same as pajamas? We say no. Loungewear does a little more heavy lifting than your favorite PJs, but feels just as great! What’s not to love? Sleep, lounge and feel your best in MeUndies.
