Meet the Wonder Women behind our March campaign. This campaign was inspired by the women of our community and designed to be a reflection of you—our heroes. Learn more about Mira Mariah, our very first feature in her own words:

I’m Mira Mariah. I'm a tattoo artist, illustrator, mother, and lady of the internet. Heroic means helping where you can, and if you ever think of how you can be most helpful, it’s always in the space you know best. I’ve made it my mission to help people use the internet and social media in a healthy and positive way. I’ve chosen to speak on this using MeUndies’ platform because they’re such an example of a healthy, joyful, and real presence on the internet. Here are some of my best tips:

  1. FIND SOLIDARITY

We all have things about us that bring us shame. If you have spotty skin, one leg, thick thighs, if you’re bald or hairy, if you have vitiligo, someone out there does too. For me, and other visually inclined people, seeking out artful and fashionable imagery that highlights the things about me I once saw as flaws endear me to those qualities. Instagram made me want to fill my stretch marks with glitter, put cute little stars over pimples, think of my at times frizzy hair as full and glamorous.

2. FIND DIVERSITY

Once you’ve found the people to follow with shared experiences, it’s important to find people with an experience as different as possible from yours. If you’re a white person, seek out people of color in your industry. I learn so much about how to make spaces and my body language more accessible by following people with disabilities different from my own. I learn so much about language and how to approach asking people their pronouns from following trans/nonbinary people. Diversifying your feed can expand your ideas about culture and beauty.

3. FIND JOY

A healthy approach to social media should include pleasure. If you can find what that means to you, your scroll will be sprinkled with fun. Whatever makes you smile, baby goats, satisfying videos of soap being cut up, photos of microscopic household items sculpted from clay, nail art, there’s an account for that.

4. TAKE SPACE

Please accept this as your permission slip to: not read the comments, unfollow accounts that make you uncomfortable, mute annoying accounts you may not want to unfollow yet but need a small break from, and even delete the app off your phone whenever you need a time off. Taking social media breaks can make coming back to them more fun and remind us to live in the moment. The real world is so fun, and the internet will always be there when you get back.
