Do you think the color red is the bee’s knees and orange is for the birds? Or maybe you have one thousand yellow t-shirts and not a single blue one? Do you eat your M&M’s in a very specific color order—aka best to worst—even though they all taste exactly the same? Well, guess what, folks: that’s because you, like most every human, probably have a favorite color. And as it turns out, that favorite color might just have a little somethin’ to say about you.

Since we’re pretty into showing our truest colors around here, we thought we’d dig into a little color psychology to see what those colors might reveal about your personality. Because who doesn’t like a little internet insight into our most authentic selves? Hey, it’s what we’re here for. So go on, color yourselves happy. (Or adventurous… or energetic… depending on your fave shade, of course.)

Red: Does the color red just light your little heart on fire? No surprise: it’s the color of excitement, passion, energy, and action. It’s super intense and grabs attention by provoking a strong, reactive emotion—which is why it’s the universal color for “stop”. If red is your color jam (you know, like strawberry, cherry, raspberry…), then you are likely driven, adventurous, active, and love a good thrill.

Yellow: Ok, even if yellow isn’t your favorite color, doesn’t it just kinda fill you with glee? There’s something about its super cheery nature that just activates smiles everywhere. Which does make sense, considering it represents joy, optimism, and friendship. Due to its lightheartedness, it’s often associated with children’s products (rubber ducky) and those of leisure (giant yellow floaty raft (duh)).  If your undying wish is to soak in all the sun’s yellowness without broiling your retinas, then a) you really love yellow and b) you’re likely positive, cheerful, and pleasant, and love sharing with others while also emphasizing your individuality.

Color_icon_orange.jpg

Orange: Oh orange, the vibrant little lovechild of red and yellow. Orange is like a happy little oasis into a realm of creativity and joy, and often represents happiness, freedom, success, and balance (since, you know, it’s quite literally half red and half yellow). Interestingly enough, because it’s a citrus color, the color orange often stimulates appetite. If orange also stimulates your utmost color senses, you’re likely enthusiastic, energetic, warm, determined, and encouraging.

Green: Ah, the color of nature. Or money? Or tomatillos? Anyway, in some circles, green has earned itself a bad reputation—symbolizing jealousy and greed. But guys, that’s for the naysayers. Green also represents good luck, harmony, growth, fertility, and rebirth. It also has great healing power, can improve vision, and is the most restful color for the human eye. So if you’re a true champion of green, who loves nothing more than seeking shut eye in grassy fields, then you’re likely ambitious, peaceful, generous, and committed to others.

Blue: Well, if thinking about blue doesn’t feel like an ocean of calm enveloping your entire being, then… maybe you don’t blue. And that’s ok, since we’ve ruled out that every color is in fact not for everyone. Anyway, the color of the sky and the sea, blue is all about peace, tranquility, and serenity. It’s quite literally beneficial to the human mind, and can help to relax metabolism. If you dream of being part of the Blue Man Group, simply to show your commitment to your favorite color, then you’re likely calm, trustworthy, and loyal, and promote unity and security.

Purple: Here’s another color love story: once upon a time, blue tangoed with red, and out came purple (there might be more details, but that’s the jist). A mix of blue’s stability and red’s energy, purple symbolizes wisdom, power, luxury, magic, and ambition. It’s also associated with royalty, because purple dyes were once so rare that only monarchs could afford them. If you sing a solitary ode to purple through and through, then you’re likely respectful, artistic, unique, independent, and creative.

Pink: Sweet little pink, the color of romance, playfulness, and love. Due to its playful nature and association with youthfulness, pink, like yellow, is often used for children’s toy packaging and brands. It also represents understanding, compassion, and nurturing. So, if pink revs your happy color senses to maximum, then you’re likely loving, kind, sensitive, and hopeful, and truly believe that in the end, everything will be okay.
